LINCOLN, Neb.-- The No. 2/6 Wartburg women's basketball team (17-0 overall, 8-0 IIAC) defeated Nebraska Wesleyan (11-6, 2-6) 93-72 Wednesday to finish the first half of the conference slate.
Five players finished in double digits as senior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) led the team with 22 points and added seven assists. Classmates Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) each had 15 points. Kristie is now one trey shy of tying the program's career record in three-point field goals.
Senior Miranda Murphy (Alleman) and sophomore Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) both tallied 11 to round out the leading scorers.
Gerdes and Neuendorf co-led the team on the glass with six rebounds each.
The Knights opened the game on a 17-7 run over the first four minutes and never looked back. The Orange and Black later led again by 10 points at 21-11 with 3:31 to go in the first. Wartburg continued to lead by double digits for the rest of the game.
As a team, the Knights owned the advantages in field goal percentage (.544 vs. .386), free throw percentage (.750 vs. .556), rebounds (48-29), and blocks (7-1).
The Orange and Black are off from competition this weekend, and return to the court next Wednesday at Loras at 6 p.m.
