WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 4/11 Wartburg women's basketball team moved to 11-0 on the season in the 64-55 win over No. 11/17 UW-Whitewater Saturday in its own Holiday Tournament Championship game. The Knights handed the Warhawks their first loss of the year as they are now 10-1.

UWW led 16-13 after the first, but the Orange and Black opened the first four minutes of the second frame on an 11-2 run to regain the lead. Wartburg later took the 31-27 lead into halftime.
The Warhawks outscored the Knights 18-16 in the third quarter, and took the lead again at 48-47 with 9:28 to play.
Senior Miranda Murphy (Alleman) responded with a 12-1 run by herself to give the Orange and Black the 59-49 lead with 3:54 to go.
Murphy led all players with 20 points and was named the Tournament's MVP. Classmate Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and was also named to the All-Tournament team.
Wartburg held the team advantages in all three shooting percentage categories, rebounds (45-28), and assists (17-2).
This marks the third time the program has started the season 11-0 under head coach Bob Amsberry, and second-straight season.
