FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—The No. 19 Wartburg men's basketball team (9-2 overall) fell 94-91 against No. 20 North Central College (7-3) in double overtime on Tuesday, their final game of the Cruzin Classic.
The Knights and captured a 42-34 halftime lead after three consecutive makes from behind the arc, one by senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and two by sophomore Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck), in the last 3:19 of the first half. In the second, Wartburg led North Central by as many as 11 points, but the Cardinals chipped away to tie the game 72-72 at the end of regulation. In the first overtime, each team scored 14 points, sending the teams to double overtime where North Central outscored Wartburg 8-5 for the win.
Though the Orange and Black were handed their second loss of the season, they had held a higher shooting percentage in field goals (.475) and three-pointers (.360).
Sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) had a team-high 22 points against the Cardinals. Senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) tallied 20 points. Other Knights in double figures were sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) with 14 and senior Nick Weber (Peosta) with 14.
Cannon, Webber and freshman Ryan Stulken (Walford) each grabbed five rebounds in the contest. Webber also led in assists with three.
Wartburg will travel to Forest City to face Waldorf on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m.
