No. 6 Wartburg Defeats No. 19 Bethel, 24-14

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The No. 6 Wartburg football team moved to 2-0 on the season with the 24-14 win over No. 19 Bethel (1-1) Saturday. This marked the second-straight win for the Knights over the Royals and also marked the first win for the program on Bethel's field.

The loss was the fourth home opener loss for Bethel since the 1996 season and first since the 2009 home opener.



Senior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) capitalized on the Knights' first drive on his 34-yard touchdown run to take the 7-0 lead.

The Knights' defense made a big stop in the first part of the second quarter as the Royals were driving after they made an interception and had first and goal. The Orange and Black did not allow them to cross the goal line as Bethel went for it on fourth and goal from the four-yard line.

The Royals tied the game for the first time with 7:07 left in the second quarter on a 19-yard run on their second drive of the frame.

Junior Jake Haberman (Clarion) gave the Orange and Black the lead as he punched one in from one-yard out to regain the 14-7 lead on the ensuing drive.

Bethel attempted a 27-yard field goal with 36 seconds left in the half, but was wide left.

The Royals knotted the score once more at 14-14 on a nine-yard pass on its first drive of the third quarter.

Wartburg regained the lead for good as senior Michael Bohlke (Manchester) made a 31-yard field goal with 4:38 to play in the third.

Domeyer made his second touchdown run of the day, this one for 16-yards for the score.

Senior Germaine Dorsey (Hillside, Ill.) helped seal the win with his interception on Bethel's first play of its next drive. The Knights then went into victory formation to run out the clock.

Domeyer finished with 83 yards on the ground while senior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) made six catches for 124 yards. Domeyer is now tied for fourth on the program's list of career touchdown leaders with 39.

Senior Gunner Tranel (Cedar Rapids) and junior Rob Rottler (Greene) co-led the defense with 11 total tackles. Tranel had a team-best six solo tackles. Senior Cole Hinders () had a team-best 2.5 sacks for a loss of 10 yards.

The Orange and Black take to the road for their final non-conference game next Saturday against UW-Stout. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
