WAVERLY, Iowa—Bailey Wilson '15 (West Des Moines) has been selected as the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's nominee for the prestigious 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
Every year, the NCAA encourages each member college and university to honor its top one or two graduating female student-athletes by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.
Each conference then selects one or two women from the nominees to represent the conference. Those names are then sent to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top 10 honorees in each division.
Wilson was a mathematics and economics double major who graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was an eight-time member of the Dean's List. She was a four-year starter and three-time All-Conference selection on the Wartburg volleyball team. Wilson was named the IIAC MVP in 2014 and finished her career as the all-time leader in attack percentage (.351). She also tallied 1,268 kills, 113 solo blocks, 313 block assists and 426 total blocks. She ranks in the top ten of those career categories.
The Knights swept the 2012 and 2013 Iowa Conference regular-season and tournament titles and made appearances in the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Tournaments.
Wilson was a two-time AVCA All-Region selection and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American in her senior season. She was a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and was a First-team Academic All-American in 2014.
A record 147 NCAA college athletes have been named 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year honorees by conferences and independent schools.
These honorees, selected from the record 480 school nominees, represent college athletes from 18 different sports spanning all three NCAA divisions. Of those recognized, 57 honorees competed in Division I, 39 competed in Division II and 51 competed in Division III.
The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will next select the top 10 honorees in each division. These top 30 honorees will be announced in early September. The selection committee will then choose and announce the top nine finalists (three from each division) at the end of September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from amongst those nine finalists to determine the 2015 Woman of the Year.
The top 30 honorees will be honored and the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.
Now in its 25
