Knights Upset UW-Stevens Point to Fight off Elimination

Box Score
WATERLOO, Iowa-- The No. 13 Wartburg baseball team not only upset No. 7 UW-Stevens Point, 4-2, but with the win, it fought off elimination in the NCAA Tournament.

The Knights took the early 1-0 lead as junior Ryan Kemp (Keokuk) scored from first as the left fielder dropped senior DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) hit.

Senior Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) doubled the lead with his solo homerun off the scoreboard in the second inning and Kemp tallied his second run of the day in the third on a wild pitch.

The Pointers tallied a run in the third and fifth innings.

Senior Jackson Litterer (Waverly) scored an insurance run in the eighth as he slid under the tag as he scored from first on Utley's single.

Junior Parker Bolt (Reinbeck) pitched the complete game to earn the win.

"It was about believing in ourselves," said Bolt. "We know we're good enough to win and can compete with anyone here (at the Regionals)."

"Parker pitched really well for us and it's not everyday you win on three hits," said head coach Joel Holst. "We had great pitching and defense which is something you have to have in the national tournament."

Wartburg will face Carthage at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
