WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's basketball team (14-11 overall) advanced to the Iowa Conference tournament semifinal game with its 64-54 win over Coe (15-11) in the opening round game Tuesday.
With the loss, the Kohawks are now 0-9 in road games in the conference tournament.
Junior Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) led all scorers with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He nearly had a double-double in the first half with nine points and as many rebounds.
Senior Mitchell Murphy (Cresco) joined him in double digits with 14 points on the night.
The Knights took the 34-22 lead into the locker room at halftime and built their lead to as many as 15 six times in the second half.
The Orange and Black's defense held the Kohawks to a .298 field goal percentage on the night. Wartburg also out-rebounded Coe 50-31, including 15-8 on the offensive rebounds.
The Knights will now travel to face Luther, the No. 1 seed, in a semifinal game Thursday at 7 p.m.
