CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- Freshman Melissa Davis (Lakewood, Colo.) was named the Iowa Conference's women's tennis player of the week, the conference office announced today.

Davis improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in Iowa Conference play at No. 2 singles with four victories last week. She toppled Dubuque's Ashley Schlueter (6-2, 6-2), Central's Megan Davis (6-2, 6-0) and Buena Vista's Elizabeth Heffernan (6-4, 6-0) in straight sets and needed a third set to overcome Simpson's Allison Anderson (4-6, 6-2, 1-0[5]).

Davis also owns a 7-3 record at No. 1 doubles with Claire Evans after picking up four wins last week.
